Learn, Grow, and Play Together
Socializing is a fundamental need for child development. At the library in Nakivale, the main activity is always individual reading which doesn’t allow the readers to spend time together and build relationships. The teachers wanted to foster a sense of community for the youths and assist them in creating new friendships with their peers. Putting their heads together the teachers came up with a plan! Board games! Playing board games brings people closer, strengthens relationships, and can help meet new people. It is the perfect way to spend time in good company and strengthen bonds with others. The team purchased educational games for all age groups so that everyone can join in the fun. Ludo, chess, checkers, snakes and ladders, scrabble and, puzzles now line the shelves of the library just waiting to unlock new friendships. “I have always wanted to play snakes and ladders, kept admiring from my neighbor’s next door whenever they play, thank you Library for putting my ideas … [Read more...] about Learn, Grow, and Play Together
Fun for everyone!
The Nakivale library is a relatively new addition to the settlement. Because reading is some important to youth development the library is always looking for new ways to bring young people in. Cue the creative corner! Our team on the ground wanted to help the library accomplish their dream of the creative corner so we got right to work! Lego sets, puzzles, arts & crafts, and educational games all now fill the creative corner! These are perfect for getting children to come spend time in the library expanding their minds and being around for storytelling hours. Through these sessions, children share their feelings, thoughts and learn social behaviors that help build their reading habits. “These materials are going to be of great impact to our library, we shall have more children coming to read and this will also help advertise the library to the community, we have more children coming to the library which also makes our work more interesting.” Said Saidi the library … [Read more...] about Fun for everyone!

A Safe and Secure Home
Today, Changemakers 365 brings us to Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement. Mr. Amani Musa, a refugee recently relocated to a new village in Rwamwanja Refugee Settlement, lives with his three daughters. He and his daughters were living in dilapidated shelter; covered by a tarp and maize-stems to shield them from the cold in the night. The house was much too small for a family of this size and was in need of some serious improvements. Upon seeing the shelter Amani and his family were living in, our team knew what they had to do. We had to provide a new shelter. One that can fit his family and provide relief from the cold. “ALIGHT has given me a home with two bedrooms and a sitting room; one room for the girls and the other for me and my son. I did not know that God was bringing a blessing to me through Alight and I cannot believe how they got to know about my condition. I am so grateful to Alight. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!” said Mr. Amani. Great job team and way to … [Read more...] about A Safe and Secure Home
