Alight works hand in hand with refugees and displaced communities through their entire journey, from initial support to long-term stability.
Our 2,300 humanitarians co-create solutions with and for more than 4 million people in over 20 countries every year. We do this by working closely with them to address their needs, developing local partnerships to build resilience, and amplifying the efforts of donors who make abundance happen.
To bring about a world in which displaced persons are enabled to rebuild, thrive, and enrich their communities, Alight is investing efforts across five focus areas:
Over the past decade, climate events triggered an average of 21.5 million new displacements each year—more than twice as many as those caused by conflict and violence. Alight works to keep people from being displaced, and we co-create livelihood and education programs with those who are forced to migrate. We also redesign settlements to focus on sustainability, introducing innovations such as solar power and water conservation solutions that protect the future of their regions.
LEARN MOREWomen and girls are at the heart of every humanitarian crisis. As natural disasters, epidemics and conflict drive millions of people from the homes they know and love, Alight provides them with critical life-saving services to bring security and dignity, including sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence risk mitigation and response, nutrition programming, and livelihood and economic empowerment.
LEARN MOREWhen disaster strikes, people can find themselves without a home, without a way to make a living, without basic services like water and sanitation. They require their needs covered quickly and efficiently. Alight responds where we can make an impact, and when there is a gap in our existing services, we partner with other organizations to leverage our respective strengths.
LEARN MOREFor populations who have lost everything—including the ability to provide for their family— Alight works to restore dignity and self-reliance through livelihoods programming. We place an emphasis on women and girls because financial self-sufficiency is particularly important to breaking the cycles of abuse and vulnerability.
LEARN MOREAlight is blazing new paths for humanitarian aid by investing in new infrastructure and innovations. From launching real-time feedback platforms to designing innovative housing solutions to training Alight's global staff on co-creation, we’re well on our way to creating a 21st-century humanitarian organization that is truly worthy of displaced communities.
LEARN MOREAlight believes that a fulfilling life calls for the care of body, mind, and spirit, the experience of being and feeling safe, the peace of house and home, the pursuit of education, the dignity of work and financial security, and the experience of loving human connection. And this is what we aim to provide.
Alight administers a wide range of health programs around the world, including disease prevention and control, emergency health care and obstetrics, primary and reproductive health care, and immunizations.
Alight provides a diversity of shelter support, from emergency and transitional housing to construction of community kitchens and other vital structures where displaced people can feel safe and begin the process of recovery.
Alight began with an emergency response on the Thai-Cambodian border in 1979, and we continue to respond in times of emergency when we can quickly mobilize teams and can contribute something to the international response that would otherwise be lacking.
Alight implements a broad range of environmental services, including water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion (WASH) and environmental health in ways that ensure measurable quality and lasting impact for those we serve.
In addition to creating structures and governing mechanisms for camp residents to represent and advocate for themselves, Alight coordinates the efforts of all agencies providing services in the refugee camp to maximize the benefits to all.
Since 2014, Alight has launched various social enterprise business models to generate the greatest good for the people we serve, increasing their self-reliance and ensuring sustainability.
Alight operates formal and non-formal education programs for children in Pakistan, Jordan, and elsewhere, and we work with adults to provide vocational and small-business training that help them build their livelihoods.
Alight partners with international and local organizations to prevent gender-based violence and to ensure survivors, their families, and their communities have the counseling, legal services, and other essential services they need.
We provide a wide range of health programs around the world, including: disease prevention and control; emergency health care and obstetrics; primary & reproductive health care; and immunizations. Alight implements innovative and inclusive solutions to ensure that all beneficiaries have ready and equal access to quality medical care regardless of geographic location, sex, economic status, or medical condition.
One of the first and most basic things any person who had fled their own home needs is a roof over their head where they can feel safe and begin the process of recovery. Over the years Alight has provided a diversity of shelter support, from emergency and transitional housing to construction of community kitchens and other vital structures.
Alight began with an emergency response on the Thai-Cambodian border in 1979, and since then we have responded to dozens of natural and man-made disasters. Generally, we respond in times of emergency when we can quickly mobilize teams who are nearby and when we believe Alight can contribute something to the overall international response that would otherwise be lacking.
