Afghan newcomers served through community programming in Minnesota
There are millions of displaced people fleeing violence and persecution around the world who are seeking a pathway to the United States. Once they arrive, they need support and guidance to settle into their new communities.

With Alight's support, a sponsor group in Minnesota welcomed three generations of a Congolese family: a grandmother, her two daughters living in a Tanzanian refugee camp, and her two granddaughters born there. The sponsor group came together because they wanted to support refugee resettlement, and we were ready to help them get started.
In partnership with Minnesota, Alight set up homes for Afghan families after the Taliban takeover. After establishing 131 homes in the Twin Cities, we launched a Welcome Home Market offering free home goods, and an Ask Alight service providing confidential support and community information. We also run programs for Afghan women and children, fostering connection through field trips and socials. Our goal is to help newcomers feel at home.

Our work with our new Afghan neighbors began by setting up houses and has evolved into community programming and additional services to help families make connections and settle into their lives in Minnesota.
