Challenge

For years, Thailand has been a haven for populations on the move, from the two million migrants who travel through the country to work to the thousands of refugees from Myanmar living in camps along the border. As these refugees return after having been away for so long, they find themselves in unrecognizable places with nothing to fall back on, putting them—particularly women—in an extremely vulnerable position.

Freeing Thailand from tuberculosis and malaria

Thailand is where Alight first came into being in 1978, starting with work to prevent and treat tuberculosis. More than four decades later, we’re still on the frontlines of infectious disease control and humanitarian response. We are now working on an ambitious goal: to completely eliminate malaria—particularly the drug-resistant kind—from Thailand and Myanmar for good by 2030 to improve lives of both local and migrant communities.
